From the Region and Province:
SASCO Ngaka Modiri Molema Region, North West
Media Statement:
Passing on of Comrade Lesego Racoco
Issued:
Monday 24 July 2017 01:31
Allow me to convey my heartfelt greetings to friends, family and comrades.
The South African Students Congress dips its revolutionary banner in mourning of the passing on of the Regional Secretary of SASCO in NMM Comrade Lesego Racoco. Comrade Racoco passed away today following a car accident in East Rand, Gauteng. Along with him, was North West Provincial Secretary Cde Tshepo Mohlomi, Cde Tshepiso Mphehlo and Cde George Starg Mokoka of which they are hospitalised.
We have lost a Cadre who dedicated his early years of life to the betterment of black school children. Cde Racoco was a humbled, disciplined, principled cadre of the movement, a fighting soldier, and a selfless-volunteer in the struggle for Free, Quality and Compulsory Education.
We extend our sincere and profound condolences to Racoco family and the Progressive Youth Alliance. His departure is not only a loss to his family but a loss to the entire progressive forces in the country.
As the youth of Bokoni Bophirima, we will continue to defend the unity and cohesion of the students’ movement from any force which seeks to deviate the movement from its principal tasks of advocating, safeguarding, and being the vanguards of children of the poor and the working class.
As SASCO we say to the Racoco family and the entire membership of our Alliance, Cde Racoco has not died; but joins the living in ideas. His political leadership and dedication to the cause will serve as glue that keeps our movement intact in the midst of the thunderous political storm that we find ourselves in.
Chairman Mao once said, “We shall heal our wounds, collect our dead and continue fighting”. In memory of Cde Racoco we will continue to fight against the triple challenges (poverty, inequality and youth unemployment), of which now there is an addition of which is access to institutions of higher learning. We will fight for the unity of the Progressive Youth Alliance in the region in order to emancipate the youth and advance their interests.
Death be not proud. Robala ka Kagiso.
