The South African Students Congress (SASCO) led by its Treasurer General – Comrade Thabile Dlamini will with the Provincial Executive Committee members of Western Cape be picketing outside Parliament as the reactionary Minister delivers the Budget Speech for the year 2021.
This will be our second picket aimed at ensuring that we put pressure on the government to do away with the implementation of austerity measures. We firmly believe that the plan to cut the Higher Education budget over the next 3 years by 6 Billion is nothing but a mockery of this important sector.
We expect the minister to:
– Bring Back the 9 Billion to NSFAS
– Increase Student Funding
– Increase Student Allowances
– Clear Plan for Historic Debt Clearance
Education is a huge investment for any developing country so we find it totally absurd that the South African Government doesn’t see the impact of its decision to cut the Higher Education budget in a country faced by the skills shortage.
PICKET DETAILS:
Time: 13:00 – 15:30
Date: Wednesday, 24 February 2021
Venue: Parliament, Cape Town
The Picket shall be inline with the COVID-19 Government Guidelines and Regulations.
