The South African Students Congress is unmoved by the leaked reports attributed to being those of the Fees Commission by the Sunday Newspapers. The reports suggest that the fees commission found that South African government cannot fund free higher education.
These alleged reports confirm a view we have long held that this commission was a waste of time and taxpayers money. We have made detailed presentation pointing out where the money to fund fee-free higher education can be sourced. However, these fell on deaf ears of a judge who has no political will to address the crisis of our country.
We have cautioned the ANC and the government that against the use of retired bureaucrats and technocrats in dealing with basic needs of our people. These people do not harbour interest of the toiling masses at heart but only serve the interests of the privileged and the elite.
We call on President Zuma to release the report so to alleviate anxiety to students who are commencing with their examinations not knowing what the future holds for them.
We do not only call for President Zuma to release the fees commission report but he must further pronounce on the free quality education, in line with the Polokwane resolutions, ANC NPC and Lekgotla resolutions of 2017.
Any further delay will be met with the full might of Students. The countdown begins.
FEES WILL FALL!
