SASCO has learnt with shock of the death of Miss Yonwabo Manyanya which is said to be as a result of hunger and being shelterless. It is very unfortunate that almost three decades into Democracy there’s a human being whom has been so violated by two public institutions namely NSFAS and EThekwini TVET College.
SASCO having met with NSFAS learnt that there are deliberate efforts by some TVET College’s to not co-operate with the new administration. We will continue urging College’s like EThekwini College; TSC; TNC; Taletso; Elangeni; Esayidi and etc to submit their registration template to NSFAS, without the registration template NSFAS can’t send money to the institutions. Colleges are futher urged prioritise the livelihood of their primary stakeholders more than their silly intentions, A death of one student is too many.
Our Provincial Leadership will announce as to when are they going to meet the Manyanya family to pay their respect to Miss Yonwabo.
As SASCO we will be writing to the Human Rights Commission of South Africa to investigate this inhuman case and seek advice on how we should legally proceed in finding justice for Yonwabo and prevent other cases of inhumanity.
We send our deepest condolences to the family; classmates; and friends of Yonwabo, and may her soul rest in peace!
