We extend our revolutionary greetings. This publication is the second publication of our online journal after the relaunch of the website.
We bring you this article with our hearts drowned in deep sorrow after having lost one of us. After the South African Youth Council’s Congress, we lost the life of a humble servant to students to a tragic accident. We lost the regional secretary of SASCO Ngaka Modiri region in the North West, comrade Lesego Racoco. Comrade Racoco passed in the call of duty as he was from participating in the SAYC congress. He will be sadly remembered for his discipline, commitment, dedication and the unending smile on his face which he always wore as a demonstration of the love he had for his comrades, his movement and the people. We fly our revolutionary flags at half-mast in honour of our brother. Our deepest condolences go to the family, colleagues in the REC and his close friends. Hamba Kahle Mkhonto! Robala ka kgotso Racoco!
The SRC election season is upon us yet again. It is through SRC elections where we are able to scientifically test our strength and appeal to students. This is a period where we expect maximum discipline and unity of purpose. All SASCO members become volunteers during this period. SASCO remains the only parliament of Students in South Africa, we must sweat and spare no effort in ensuring that we maintain the institutions we are currently governing and reclaim those which we temporarily lost in pursuit of absolute hegemony in the sector. The NEC will be launching the national manifesto at the beginning of August. We invite all structures to kick start their campaigns.
Structures are also preparing for their Provincial General Councils. This process is sometimes marred by violence and unsavoury use of social media, remember that you are all each other’s keepers, each other’s comrades and ambassadors of your dear organisation. Apply the Constitution, apply the guidelines and make sure that we conduct a smooth organisational process premised on unity and the desire to build this organisation to even greater heights.
We wish to congratulate our Secretary General on her election as the Deputy Secretary General of the South African Youth Council. We have no doubt that she will serve the youth of this country with distinction, we wish her all the best in her new responsibilities.
In this publication we have five contributions, a Tribute to Cde Racoco by the NEC, Articles by comrades, Ashley Mabasa, Lwando Majiza, Buyile Matiwane and Bhekithemba Mbatha.
Cde Mabasa takes us through the nexus between ideology and practice from his experiences as a member of SASCO. Cde Majiza pokes the debate on the existence or none thereof of the concept of white monopoly capital premised on the colonial social relations. Cde Matiwane warns the SACP of the potential dangers they may face. Cde Mbatha reminds the party of its vanguard role and suggests a back to basics approach in dissecting any societal challenges.
The views expressed in these articles are those of the authors and do not reflect the collective thinking of the NEC.
We hope you enjoy this publication and invite you to make contributions for the next publication.
Regards,
