Welcome to the 9th edition of SASCO Online journal, Moithuti. In this journal like true student movement that uses Marxism and Leninism as tools of analysis and guide to action, we disdain to conceal our views and our agenda remains clear – the creation for the space for the generation of Marxist ideas within and outside the student movement.
This edition comes at a time when the student movement has just bid farewell to the gallant fighter, a friend to many and a consistent and persistent revolutionary. Siyabulela’s life deliberately cut shot by our opponents for whatever reasons shall remain a constant reminder of how revolutionary young activists are a threat to the status quo and how we must unequivocally pursue our struggles for the total liberation of our people. This edition also comes during the month of August where we commemorate struggles of fearless African, black poor and working-class women in 1956 who put aside their fears for the brutalization and murder by Apartheid South African government and marched to its highest office to demand burn of pass laws.
This edition covers the following articles;
1. Nompumelelo: Females students can have better lives through education by Sandile Latha
2. Education institutions in Makhanda must lead the rescue conversation of the Municipality for their own sake, as well by Sive Gumenge
3. The inspiring life of Walter Sisulu by Sandile Latha
The articles herein share perspectives on how post-schooling education can improve the life the motive forces of our revolution and immediate societies wherein the different institutions of higher learning are based in and the last one seeks to celebrate a life well lived of our honorary President Walter Sisulu. The articles in this edition reiterate a position shared in our Strategic Perspective on Transformation (SPOT) document that education must be freed from ideological stranglehold if it is to be developmental in nature.
The editorial team has resolved to dedicate the two next editions to sharing women struggles and celebrating the life and times of comrade Siyabulele Lufele.
