OR Tambo School of Leadership Invests Into The Future Of Leadership In The Mass Democratic Movement and Across The Public and Private Sectors_
OR Tambo School of Leadership is hosting a week-long intensive training workshop that is intended to enhance the ideological and analytical capabilities of youth leaders from the Progressive Youth Alliance (PYA). This workshop (named Youth Development Workshop – YDW) will take place at University of Johannesburg (UJ) from 09th to15th July 2022.
“Our political education investment in the youth is investing in the future of our country and the world” highlighted OR Tambo School Principal, Dr David Masondo as he explained the significance of the workshop. “A successful conclusion to the course offered at the workshop will be participants able to apply basic tools of analysis critically and analytically to concrete social, economic and political situations, and contexts. It is all about deepening understanding of how the world works and how to change it.”
Defined as part of the ANC’s overall organisational renewal and transformation agenda, through the YDW young people were identified as a significant target group who must be capacitated to provide required leadership roles across the Mass Democratic Movement as well as public and private sectors. A total of 90 youth leaders from the PYA and the Fort Hare Autumn School have been identified to attend. Collectively these are representative of all 9 provinces.
The course content of YDW is based on OR Tambo School’s 13 Strategic Courses. In this regard, modules that will be covered are:-
*Tools of Analysis;
*Dialogue on organizational renewal and role of the youth; and
*Dialogue on ethical leadership and crass materialism.
Facilitators and speakers of YDW includes Joel Netshitenzhe, Fasiha Hassan, Lwazilwaphesheya Khoza, Busisiwe Nxumalo, Nomi Nkondlo, Confidence Moloko, Gregory Nthatisi, Johnny Mohlala and Thami Ntenteni.
Organisations represented under the banner of the PYA are:-
*ANCYL NYTT – ANC Youth League National Youth Task Team
*COSAS – Congress of South African Students
*SASCO – South African Students Congress
*YCLSA – Young Communist League of South Africa
“Our course structure is based on integrated contact sessions, learning support and assessment” further explained Dr David Masondo as he concluded. “To be successful one must submit all independent tasks, attendant contact sessions where registers will be marked as well as pass the final assessment”.
The delivery of the Tools of Analysis module will serve as both a catalyst and test case for the school’s strategic courses as it will be the first of its kind delivered in a physical environment since the Covid-19 pandemic. Post the workshop participants will join the cohort of OR Tambo School facilitators across the country assigned the role of delivering political education programs.
