The South African Students Congress (SASCO)on behalf of the students of the Republic of South Africa extends its revolutionary congratulations to the Southern Africa Student Union (SASU) on its convening of a successful 4th regional conference in Windhoek, Namibia.
SASU is an African student union dedicated to the creation of an enabling environment to the observance of human rights, academic rights, gender equity, peace, and democracy in all of Southern Africa. SASU is composed of student formations from the 14 Southern African Development Community (SADC) member states, who are committed to the development of southern Africa through education and unity.
The leadership collective of the Southern African Students Union (SASU) is as follows:
Chairperson: Alister Phunye (Zimbabwe)
Vice-Chair: Isaiah Mambwe (Zambia)
SG: Ester Simon (Namibia)
DSG: Esther Gomani (Malawi)
TG: Buthanani Thobela (South Africa)
Gender Secretary: Simlinzile Masina (eSwatini )
Secretary IR: Boago Dodo Seiko (Botswana)
Additionals:
Executive Additional’s
- Peter Niboye – Tanzania
- Rapuleli Rapul- Lesotho
- Phiwo Ngqunge- South Africa
- Luciano Kambala- Namibia
- Kudzanayi Mavhumashava- Zimbabwe
SASCO congratulates the elected leadership collective and is further elated by the election of its current Secretary General, Buthanani Thobela as Treasurer General of SASU and NEC member, Phiwo Ngqunge for her election into the structure. These NEC members join a legacy of South African students such as former President Thabo Moloja, former Deputy President Tsakani Tshiviti and former NEC Joy Phiri who have in the past taken up the responsibility to lead the union from our republic.
The conference convened just months after the ordinary SADC summit, which expressed little to nothing on Education and general development of Students and young people alike amidst the soaring rates of unemployment and minimal to no access to the economy across the region. We remain hopeful that amongst many other things such issues will be at center of the newly elected collective’s agenda.
We are confident that this dynamic collective of Africans will serve students in southern African with diligence.
