SASCO POST NWC STATEMENT

The South African Students Congress (SASCO) convened its ordinary National Working Committee (NWC) on Tuesday, 13 July 2021 to assess the state of the organization and evaluate how far is the rebuilding process. The NWC took stock of burning issues facing the student movement, the organization acknowledged the recently convened Branch Annual General Meetings and Regional Congresses and congratulated them.

The NWC further took a decision to reconfigure the Provincial Task Team of Gauteng by releasing Cde Sabelo Mpangane & Cde Nthabiseng Magongwa and appointed Cde Sphosakhe Ngunze & Cde Duduzile Lenyora to the PTT.

Having assessed the continued state of deterioration of the Limpopo province the NWC resolved to release the PTT and appoint a new PTT as follows:

  1. Cde Phineas Sobela – Convener
  2. Cde Afrika Somthi – Coordinator
  3. Cde Martin Kharivhe – Resource Mobiliser
  4. Cde Mutovholwa Ulenda
  5. Cde Lekgala Manelang
  6. Cde Percy Ncabeleng
  7. Cde Tshwarelo Machete

The NWC has agreed to conduct mass inductions for all recently elected Regional and Branch leaders, this process will be led by the President working with the Political Education subcommittee.

The National Working Committee will in time after the National Executive Committee meeting, communicate the guidelines for Provincial Congresses and National General Council.

We remain committed to the program of organizational rebuilding as mandated by the National Congress. The NDC will continue investigating the instances of violence which were reported at some of the regional congresses and we remain intolerant of such barbaric elements.

We call for calm and stability in these trying times. A peaceful protest is an answer and government must take the necessary steps to deal with the current on going protests within the parameters of law. The National Working Committee will communicate further details as and when it concludes its deliberations.
