The South African Students Congress (SASCO) congratulates the matric class of 2020 on its sterling performance under strenuous conditions of a global pandemic. The resilience displayed by the Matric class and their collective ability to overcome and ultimately achieve a 76.2% pass rate is commended by the entirety of the revolutionary student movement in South Africa.
It is painful that the struggle of the Matric class to overcome a pandemic in the previous year will be met with a new struggle in 2021, against former liberators of the African majority who have since become hell-bent on denying the people their right to an education and assumed the position of defenders of white privilege all while widening inequality in South Africa.
The doors of learning which the people of South Africa envisioned to be open to all under an ANC government are being bolted shut, with the marginalized and poor being squeezed out of institutions of higher learning with only those with money being guaranteed placement as NSFAS abandons scores of prospective students, a large majority being African.
SASCO awaits the Matric class of 2020 across all campuses in the country as it continues its historical mission of ensuring access and success in the Higher education and training sector.
The struggle continues.
