SASCO TO PICKET OUTSIDE PARLIAMENT DURING SONA

The South African Students Congress (SASCO) National leadership will on Thursday, 11 February 2021 at 19:00 be picketing outside Parliament as President Cyril Ramaphosa delivers the State of the Nation Address to the joint sitting.

SASCO will picket and concurrently lead a digital march in the wake of our new normal. This decision comes at the wake of the continued arrogance displayed by the Government of the day especially within the Department of Finance, with the Treasury continuing to run this government as though it was not elected on its manifesto on the backs of the Working Class.

SASCO shall be voicing that :

– The R9 Billion cut from NSFAS must be allocated back,
– Increase of Student Funding,
– Increase Student Allowances,
– Clear timelines on our 14 October demands,
– Student Debt Clearance,
– Clear Funding Plan for the Missing Middle,

These are but some of the issues which face the Higher Education and Training sector in our country and we firmly believe that President Ramaphosa must urgently address these issues as Education is one of the Governments Apex.

We lobby the whole South African Community, NEHAWU, YCLSA, and the Alliance (SACP &COSATU) to join our picket and Digital March as we believe that this arrogance coupled with this anti-poor policy direction is nothing but a reversal of our progressive collective gains.
