SASCO IS STONRGLY OPPOSED TO THE EVACUATION OF STUDENTS AT RESIDENCES!

*“The children of any nation are its future. A country, a movement that does not value its youth and children does not deserve its future.” – Oliver R Tambo.*

The South African Student Congress (SASCO) is against any calls for students to evacuate any residences from the Institutions of higher learning. We believe this defies the precautionary and logical measure to contain the spread of the virus, which has proved to be spreading at an alarming rate. We draw this from experiences in many other countries, whose new infections grew rapidly after relaxing of travel/containment restrictions.

We believe that the continued flagrant flouting call by Government and Vice Chancellors/Principals, risks exposure to our communities and goes against the necessary containment protocols essential to curb the spread of this international pandemic.

We call for these measurers:

1. Keep Residences open to avoid mass traveling,

2. Establish Testing Points in all campus residences,

3. Promote good personal hygiene & sanitize residences,

4. Continue to disburse NSFAS Allowances,

5. All Campus Clinics must operate 24hrs,

6. Deactivate Biometrics & Increase Security Personnel,

7. Contain our students at residences and not expose them,

“The rationale of sending possibly infected students back to areas which have no recorded infections is absurd, we strongly believe that containing students within residences is the most rational decision to make”, said Bamanye Matiwane SASCO President
